Matt is the son of Carl and Cindy Hayden of Elmira, New York.  From his parents, Matt learned the value and meaning of dedicated hard-work, service to others, living a full and active life, and most importantly the value of family.

Matt is a devoted husband to Denise Hayden and father to their two children.  Together, they reside in Burdett, New York, with their dog Max, whom they adopted from the Schuyler Animal Shelter in 2004.

Denise has a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Elmira College and a Master of Social Work from Syracuse University.  She was raised as the daughter of an Army officer, living abroad and stateside until her father retired while stationed at the Seneca Army Deport in Romulus, New York, after twenty-three years of service.  Denise is a Senior Probation Officer for Tompkins County.

The Haydens enjoy camping and hiking throughout New York State.  In Schuyler County they have hiked every mile of the Finger Lakes National Forest many times over, and they are regulars on the trails of the Arnot Forest, Connecticut Hill, Sugar Hill, the Watkins Glen State Park, and on the Catharine Valley Trail.  They are all aspiring 46ers, working on climbing all 46 High Peaks in New York State.
