In 2002, the same year that Matt Hayden was admitted to practice law, he moved to Schuyler County and began his legal career.  He opened his private practice in the Schuyler Iron Works Building.  He worked in the areas of general litigation, criminal defense, real estate, and family court.  Matt zealously represented his clients in the courtroom, whether as a family court attorney, personal injury attorney or as a criminal defense attorney.

In 2003, Matt began his work for the Schuyler County District Attorney as a part-time prosecutor with a specialization in cases that involved domestic violence.  In 2004, he was promoted to the full-time position of Chief Assistant District Attorney and closed his private practice.  This promotion meant that Chief Assistant Hayden performed all of the duties that the elected District Attorney could do, when he was tasked to do so, or when the District Attorney was not available.  Matt has actively and successfully prosecuted all levels of crime in our county, in every township of Schuyler County.  He represents the District Attorney's Office in Drug Court, and he is the District Attorney’s representative on the Child Abuse Review Taskforce.

In 2013, he was awarded the Prosecutor of the Year for the State of New York, an award that New York State gives to only one prosecutor each year.  This award recognized Matt Hayden’s exemplary skill, integrity, and hard-work in the courtroom as a reflection of his dedication to the People of Schuyler County.
